After night at a club, highway accident leaves woman and friends in hospital. She admits to using - and tests positive for - alcohol and marijuana. Cleared by a jury.
On the night of October 3, 2004 a young woman and her friends were driving home from Kenosha, Wisconsin. She and her friends had spent the night out clubbing. On a four-lane highway, the driver lost control of the car and crashed. The vehicle flipped over.

There were multiple injuries to the occupants of the car. Numerous emergency medical units responded and the highway was closed off to other motorists for the rest of the night.
Lewis Gainor defended this woman against the charges. She had a job as a nurse, and a career to protect. The People of the State of Illinois wanted her drivers' license revoked, and a sentence of jail time. The Lake County State's Attorney would not negotiate.
The trial began on April 25, 2005, and lasted for several days. The Lake County State's Attorney called numerous witnesses, including police officers and emergency medical personnel who responded to the crash. The prosecution presented evidence that the woman who was charged with DUI had tested positive for the presence of cannabis in her system, as well as alcohol.
At the end of the trial, attorney Lewis Gainor made his closing argument to the jury, and asked them to acquit his client.
The jury deliberated for more than a day, and when they returned, the jury rendered their verdict.
Not guilty of all charges.
